Anyone Else Enjoying this Season's Tangerines?

I must have eaten a hundred of those little seedless things in the past few weeks. So good, so easy to peel. Friggin yum.

They're similar, but the ones overflowing the baskets at the Russian markets in this area have a slightly thicker skin that's more loose around the actual fruit. Don't get me wrong, Cuties are good. Tangelos are very good as well. Just don't buy them at Whole Foods, they're around $1.75 a Tangelo.

Satsumas are one of the few things I always look forward too during the winter season. I wish I could get them all year long.

[adjusting pedant's hat] mandarins (not tangerines--that's one specific fruit) are really coming on strong in the US. Say 10 years ago or so, there just weren't very many grown. That's really changed. If you go to farmers markets, there are dozens of types -- they're all easy to peel (to varying degrees) and many of them are seedless -- but if you're in cali and can find something like a page or a new variety called gold nugget ... amazing. curiously, mandarins are extremely sensitive to microclimate, so where they're grown has as much or more to do with quality than variety. places like north san diego county and the ojai valley get really cold nights and warm days ... great fruit

It was actually my first time having Satsumas. Usually I get Clementines, but Whole Foods had a ridiculous sale on Satsuma's ~$0.69/lb! I got 5 lbs and felt like a thief lol.

Very tasty, easier to peel than Clementines, and had a tiny bit of tartness I love but don't consistently get with Clementines.

FG, while you're being pedantic, what are "clementines"? A tangerine variety? A mandarin?
