Have any style advice for a skinny guy who wants to cover up his skinny legs? Maybe some kind of thickened jeans and trousers?

It's a bit on the avant-garde side, but as a *very* slim guy I've found a sweet spot in tapered trousers. A personal favorite has been the Monitaly Riding Pants, which can regularly be found on sale in the $70-120 range.

If you don't want to draw attention to your skinny legs then don't wear skinny trousers. The cut of the trousers is going to be much more important than the thickness of the fabric. You don't need to wear a full-cut pair of trousers, just something that is cut 'slim' or even 'straight' but not 'skinny'.

Generally,

If you do go wide, focus on drape. Stiff chino doesn't look good wide, but a flowy wool might look great, and then nobody will notice or care what's happening underneath.

If you go slim, maybe try something like an athletic fit with pleats, or something else that involves a bit of room somewhere, so that it's not just a straight line down. Or wear skinny trousers, but play with your silhouette up top for a contrasting top/bottom effect.

Agreed that tapered is best. I'm a tall, skinny guy and have found that tapered trousers are the most flattering. Go for a higher rise–low rise trousers will accentuate thinness. Pleats will help too, because they allow the leg to drape better while concealing the excess material around the waist.
