Been enjoying restaurants and Bourbon street, but was wondering if there are any shopping areas/stores worth checking out in New Orleans?

There is a place on the bottom level (street level) of the Place St. Charles (201 St. Charles, that is two blocks down St. Charles from Canal Street) that is nice. Can't remember the name, but he always had nice stuff in there.

There is Meyer the Hatter as well, if you like hats. Right off of Canal too...may even be on St. Charles.

Brooks Brothers at Canal Place. Rubenstein Brothers on Canal right across the street and the Shops in Canal Place as well....there are some speciality shops in there. In the Quarter there is a place called UAL. This is kind of a Filene's type of place, I think it is on Chartres, close to to St. Louis Catherdral.

Hope this helps,

Mike

George Bass. Quite a nice little shop. Better, in my opinion, than the more well-known Rubensteins around the corner. I posted about it a few years ago:

You really should check out George Bass.
Kiton, Isaia, Finamore, Loro Piana, Edward Green.
A very nicely edited selection of great stuff, and an excellent staff...

As a local, Perlis gets most of my money, but I'm not a stranger to George Bass or M. Goldberg. I've never actually purchased anything at Rubenstein's but I know plenty of folks that do. If I'm looking to shop at a chain, I go to Brooks Brothers or Allen Edmonds. Also don't miss Aidan Gill, though not a clothing store, its a great place to go for men's style items and groom products (and a shave or haircut with a pint). A new place opened up called "Friend" I believe, and have read some great reviews of it, but I've yet to check it out since it isn't really my type of clothing. Don't forget to pass by Adler's and pick up something nice for your wife while you're here.

There's also a couple of places out in the burbs I hear decent things about, including Porter Stephens (or is it Stevens?), and Jeff's Haberdashery.
