The fact that you both garden and fill your flask with Pulteney is somewhat bromantic.

I love the iodine and heat on the back end on a cold rainy day on the porch.

I just bought my first bottle of Scotch, Johnny Walker Black. Since I am a scotch newbie can someone describe the notes to me so I know what I am drinking and I can start deciphering flavors? Is that a weird request?

it's not if you're drinking some decent scotch but I personally loathe JW (except maybe Gold & Blue label... & I'm not saying that as a scotch elitist or snob)... get some good ginger ale, mix it up, swill that JW then spend another $10-$15 to get a decent single malt... JW is blended so it is a mixture of many different whiskys. I just picked up a holiday special package of Glenmorangie that contained a fifth of GM 10yr, and also came w/ a 50ml each of the Lasanta, Quinta Ruban and the Nectar d'Or for only $38! That's quite a deal considering the regular bottle usually costs about the same... btw, i just googled it ...it's called the "Discovery Pack". Sounds lame, tastes good! They are all single malts so you'll get a better idea of pure tasting notes there.... more scotch experts here may add expertise far beyond mine.

I just re-read my last post and it made me sound like a 70yr old man. *******. Cold fresh air and a little scotch... feelsgoodman

I'll drink JW Green if the SMS selection is lacking. It's decent (and certainly better than Gold or Blue).

I think that Black is pretty decent for the money. I don't keep it around, but if the choice is Glen* 12 or Black, I'll take Black every time.

The complexities of whisky/scotch stems further than the abundant ingredients you mentioned.

Of course the complexities do. But as far as ingredients, ama called you out. That's all there is. It is UK law. But I'm sure ingredients wasn't the word you intended on using.

De gustibus non disputandum est my Persian bro. For me the level of iodine is like chewing a used bandage. My dear friend that gave me the bottle of Pulteney finds that bottling lacking in iodine. It's all personal taste and I'm just not a heavy peat nor heavy iodine guy which makes the more expensive bottles of JW just plain nasty to me. Give me a nice, smooth, toasted oak infused Speyside any day...or an Islay like Bunnahabhain that gets its water up through hard rock so more like a Speyside.

Costco has 27 off blue label for 122, gold for 55.99 both with coupons. Lag 16 is now 51.99, didn't care how much oban was.

They had an hp set of 12 and 18 750s for 115. They had one odd zaya gift set with snifters that I was going to buy but too lazy to check price on.
