Morning all!

There's a groupon deal today with bespoke tailor Max Hence offering a suit for £495 (instead of a supposed £1,200). Google search has not yielded any useful intel, so just checking whether anyone has come across them before, and has any feedback, positive or negative?

Thanks!

Totally agree, inimitable, although their normal prices are from £1,100, and this offer is only available today. Website claims full bespoke from customised pattern, which is pretty explicit! But the lack of info anywhere doesn't exactly reassure.

You can get full bespoke at their full price in London so I'm not massively suspicious, but 50% is a pretty steep discount. If you've got the chance I'd go to their shop to have a look and a bit of a chat before committing.

I'm signed up with Groupon but haven't got an email about this. Can you post a link to the offer on their site?

Link as follows (let me know if it doesn't work)

http://www.groupon.co.uk/deals/londo...ampaign=Varies

I'm not going to get a chance to go there before the deal runs out, so unless I get some positive feedback I'm prob not going to take the plunge. I could always give them a call and see if they'll offer me the same deal. Unlikely, but if you don't ask, you don't get!

Link works fine but the offer closes in 11 hours and I'll not be able to make it over there by then either. Probably just as well as I'm supposed to be saving for a holiday.

You could try giveing them a call just to ask them a few questions about fittings, construction etc.

Well the voucher is valid until January and you have to book an appointment online, so I'd guess that they just restrict the number of appointments available if they don't have enough capacity.

To be giving a 50% discount on something as labour intensive as bespoke tailoring makes me think they must be operating at a loss, not putting the required amount of time into each suit or scrimping on cloth quality.

Would be good to know anyones findings however.

Interesting... but why is their standard price for "English bespoke" just over £1000 and the price for "sartoriale" tailoring made in Puglia £2000?

Need a suit for my wedding though, so I may have to take the plunge for this price.

the sartoriale includes a basted fitting and is made in italy. the "english bespoke" includes a first fitting, a forward fitting and a final fitting. both are made from scratch to your specifications. i forgot to ask where the entry-level suits are made. the fabrics are super 80s-100s, including basic solids, stripes and some checks. i get the feeling they've been pretty shocked at the response.

Now up to 230 buyers on the offer! Not surprised they're looking shocked. All that I've learned is that Max Hence were bought by Eveleigh and Read last August and are now operating out of the latter's showroom in Shoreditch. So if anyone knows anything about E&R ...

Thanks for the feedback grimslade. Not that I want to put you on the spot or anything :) but did you get the impression it would be worth the plunge?

Found no intel on Eveleigh & Read either!

The price is good even for a decent suit off the peg. I'd like to know where they're made, and I wish I'd asked. It's a tempting offer. My sense is, they see it as a loss-leader, as a way to get people in the door in the hope they'll come back again for full-price merchandise. If someone calls and asks where the suits are made, please post the reply. Given what we don't know about them, it's always going to be a shot in the dark, but it prove to be a great deal.
