Any ieas on what to wear with my new peacoat?

I'm starting to recoup my winter clothing selection, and can't think of much of anything that would go well with a pea coat.

It's relatively well fitting, if not slightly big; which isn't a problem, considering that I plan to layer a lot under it. Winters in the North East are cold, and I have a feeling this is going to be a long, snowy one.

It's black, military issue. It comes to about the halfway point on my thighs, so it's easily the longest coat I own. I'm not drowning in the thing, though, considering I'm 6'1" (ish). If I need to I can dig out my camera and snap a picture.

Any ideas on what would look right with it? Ideas and links to where I could purchase them would be appreciated. I'm also in need of a hat; I haven't let my hair grow out since I returned from Basic, so any ideas on what to get would be helpful. My noggin' is getting cold.

As a heads up, I'm trying not to spend a whole lot of money. Gotta spend it on college and such.
