Was diagnosed with ulcerative esophagitis a few weeks ago and have been on prilosec/carafate, however was having bloating/burping/feeling full etc. My new GI said the ulcerative esophagigits didnt explain this and sent me for a GES today.
I am 28 y/o, very healthy male, had as much blood work as you can think of and tests for everything from thyroid to lyme...
Anyway the test was at Beth Israel in Boston, made me eat some horrible eggs (prob. about 2 or 3 worth), 2 pieces toast w/ jam and a bit of water. Then had to lay flat on my back for 45 mins. under the xray machine. Then was allowed to get up and wander for an hour, come back for pic, then wander for an hour and come back for pic.
The tech said my results were as follows:
@ 45 mins. only 55% was left in my stomach
@ 2 hrs. only 15% was left; and
@ 3 hrs. under 5% was left so they let me go home.
I am assuming that it is very unlikely I have GP or even minor delayed gastric emptying with these results???
I read online that normal results are as follows:
90% or less after 1 hr.
60% or less after 2 hrs.
10% or less after 4 hrs.
I was well ahead of all those marks.
