I'm thinking of going in for a CT Scan, but am wondering if there are different types. For example, I have been experiencing frequent strong headaches and would like to get it checked...Another issues I have is that I think I may need Jaw Surgery... Will getting a CT scan cover both these areas or do I have to be specific??

Thanks

I've contacted a doctor about the headaches and was told it could be minor stress... I highly doubt it... I also contacted a doctor about the jaw, and was told that a CT Scan will help determine if I need surgery or not. Essentially, getting the CT Scan would be helpful for both of my issues... I just don't know if each issue requires a specific type of CT Scan...

Could you not just ask your doctor?

each specific issue could require a specific type of CT. hard to say without any working diagnoses. it is best to liase with the appropriate doctor. based o your specific clinical picture he will be able to suggest the appropriate scans required. Maybe MRI or other imaging is better suited to your problem. Remember that CT poses a high level of radiation and shouldn't be undertaken lightly especially with the head.

Didn't realize there was an MD after you last name. Seriously, how do you know what diagnostic tools are going to help figure out what's wrong with you over a telephone?

Reason I ask is because I like doing my own research before anything, even though I've got an appointment with a Dr. next week. I like to be a little more prepared than usual. Thanks for the advice
