Any deals in Boston? Best places to shop for 1 day?

Hello,
Going to Boston this weekend (to catch the last days of the body exhibit) and since we are going to be in the downtown faneuil area I just want to know where I would find the best deals. Any discounters in the area?

I know there is a Filene's Basement there, is it worth it on a Saturday? I'm not really looking for anything in particular

Any other suggestions, or sale ideas are appreciated.

Neil

if you are in fanuel hall, definatly got o filenes basement. This one is the origianl. Automatic Markdowns, baby! Saturday could be a crowd, but its a quintessential part of the well-dressed man's experience of boston. You can shop at JFK's favorite Brooks Brothers location. There's also a Thomas Pink's (if you like billowy shirts) and an Allen-Edmonds (if you wanna try something on before buying online

Hit the new Filenes Basement on Boylston St. as well. They have some Borrelli and higher end stuff, not as picked over as Downtown Crossing. There is a Marshalls across the street on Boylston that someone here said had Kiton cords, not sure.

If you are more interested in the designer/streetwear/casual side of things, in addition to Barneys (sale ongoing) and Louis (sale starts Saturday), Stels and Alan Bilzerian, in my estimation the best boutiques in Boston in their respective pricepoints (diffusion and designer, respecitvely) are also going to start sales on Saturday.

Barney's probably has some stuff leftover from their sale as well - approx 50% off.

Filene's Basment in Downtown Crossing is really picked over right now.

The body exhibit is despicable. Next thing they should proclaim those bodies an art and sell them at the Sotheby's.

Thanks all, making a list of stores to hit now. Praying for no rain.

Oh one other thing, if you were driving to that area, where would you park? I remember parking in a garage in the downtown area and it was like $40 to park by the time we got out.

In regards to the Body Exhibit, well bodies are part of science, and after all this is a science museum...The bodies were donated knowing what they were getting into, it's not like the curator was a grave robber.

park at Post Office Square. Google it. I head to Boston almost every weekend and this is definitely the best deal I have found in the financial district/northend area.

There is a parking garage on Winthrop St - Downtown Crossing/Financial District which is very cheap during the week. Not sure how much it is on the weekends.

There's also a garage underneath the Common. This is probably expensive but it is a very central location.

This exibit has as much to do with science as a pig submerged in formaldehyde has to do with art.

The trick with art is to name it something interesting...like This little piggy when to market, this little piggy stayed home

I guess you've never been fascinated by human anatomy. I find it quite interesting, especially being an artist having studied the human anatomy in life drawing classes.

As far as the pig goes, depends on the statement the artist is making by submerging the pig in formaldehyde, art is subjective, science is not.

Thanks for the suggestions on the parking. I contacted the Post Office Square garage and the $9 flat rate parking on Saturday seems very reasonable. Much more so than their week day rates.

I usually leave my car there for a couple days over the weekend. The alternative (for me) is up in the north end where parking is highway robbery. I think it must be cheaper because it is located in the financial district where there is not necessarily a ton of traffic on the weekend. Come monday morning though...

Good point.

Do you think it'd be easy to park there and walk to the science museum or is that quite a bit of a hike? It would just be less of a hassle to not have to move the car at all.

We originally were thinking of parking out of town and taking the T in but we weren't sure about that option.
