Another traveling advice threak.

Hello gents, will have 2 weeks of leave around Xmas and need to decide where to go. I am in Monterey, CA now. My original plan was go back to MN, stay with aunt in the twin cities and then friends in my rural home town. I'll be 21 by then, so entertainment and meeting people shouldn't be a problem. The only hitch is that it's all crap I've done before, and I don't think I want to stomach the weather. Seeing family isn't terribly important. The plus side is most of my lodging will be free and I can find a flight for under 5 hundo.

I want to go somewhere warm, without snow. I just don't think I could swing a trip for under $2K, except for possibly central america or south america? SE Asia appeals to me as well but is probably too expensive. Also, I will be going solo and am a Midwestern white boy with limited travel experience. Don't have a car anymore. I'm not looking to buy a bunch of expensive backpacking gear right now either. Am not opposed to a US based suggestion, if someone has an interesting idea. Any help would be appreciated.

wtf you're just 20 yo? thought you were older! anyway, think you could do se asia under 2k if you really want to... just pick a country (say thailand) and stick to a couple of places.. maybe a few days in bangkok and then the beach.

Thanks for the advice AB. Damn this topic is as popular as feminism in Afghanistan! Anyway, my ex that I realized am still in love with had a relative that recently croaked, and she is now inheriting 200K. She can't touch it before age 30 however, unless used for travel. I'm not sure how that works, but I will probably be seeing her.

anyway, you could actually do some pretty good backpacking or beach camping in peru, panama or costa rica for under 2 k, or Thailand. honestly, if you can hit Thailand will 500 bucks to spend and you are willing to live in hostels you can live pretty well for a couple of weeks. that would be my choice.
