I know there have been hundreds of these threads, but I need advice. I'm a recent college grad looking to get my first suit. I'd like the suit to be versatile enough to wear to job interviews, grad school interviews, weddings etc... so I'm thinking of getting a solid charcoal gray. Do you recommend 2 or 3 buttons? What works better for a person on the short side? Also, where can I get something that will last me 5 years or so? J. Crew seems pretty decent, but I'm not sure if its worth retail price... I am on a budget, but can spend around $400. Thanks in advance!

You want to pay $400 and get a suit that will last 5 years?
Do you mean 5 years of infrequent wear? If so, then any of the suits mentioned on any of the other threads will be fine. J Crew's suiting is decent but not worth the retail pricing by any twist of the imagination.

The only new suits I can imagine that would last that long would be higher quality ones purchased on ebay, or maybe getting a MTM suit made by Get Smart (www.thickasthievesla.com) which would definitely be the route I'd go. The solid charcoal option would probably be formal enough for interviewing. As it is, his pricing is exactly $400 for the suits IIRC, and since they're made to measure, you know they'll fit.

Can I recomend Lands End Suit Seperates? Only because your criteria is that the suit lasts a good long time. All the items that I have from Lands End have lasted a very long time and worth the few extra dollars.

The only issue is that they sell suits SEPERATES, not the whole suit together. It might be more of a pain, but that's my advice.
