My first post, so hello everybody and thanks for all the advice you have already provided in the existing threads I have been browsing while lurking!

I would like to ask for comments about the fit of the two jackets that I own. My own feeling is that the left, darker, one is ok while the one on the right is rather wide and should probably be sold and replaced by something a bit slimmer. Please try to ignore the funny-looking cuffs "” I know they are too wide and the sleeves to long "” and the fact that my legs look like I have been on horseback for the last eight hours "” I certainly haven't, so no idea what caused that!

Yes, I probably should have dug up another pair of trousers for the picture (and a pair of shoes!). Too late, now...

Assuming your picture is true to size/proportion, both jackets are longer then they should be, with the chest/shoulders full, sleeves too long and quarters too closed.

I think the quarters being rather closed is a matter of taste, not so much the jackets fitting poorly. Some suits/odd jackets are cut that way by design such as many of the BB offerings. Otherwise, I agree with the above comments.

Thanks, all of you!

So, in practical terms, what should I go looking for? A bit tighter around the shoulders and chest and shorter... perhaps simply go down a size?

About the length... I jumped into the suit trousers and a pair of shoes, and shot some more images. The green line is halfway between the floor and the top of the collar, and the red one is where the jacket would just cover my butt (though it is a bit hard to gague exactly where this would be from the image).
Where would you say the proper length would be, in relation to those two?

(Ouch, that shirt really doesn't fit very well... Legs a bit long, too?)

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
