Another Interesting Ebay Question

I won a jacket on Ebay last week and just received it. It was described as follows:

RALPH LAUREN PURPLE LABEL
THIS IS A AUTHENTIC DESIGNER SPORTCOAT. ITS IN LIKE NEW CONDITION. THE JACKET IS 42L. IT IS A NAVY BLUE AND 100% CASHMERE. THE JACKET IS 3-BUTTON.

I emailed the seller with a couple of questions regarding size, condition etc and received the following reply:

The length from the bottom of the collar is 32 1/2, the sleeve length is 25 1/2. It is a 3 button jacket. The jacket is in great shape, there aren't any stains, smells or pilling. I see 2 minor pulls (one on sleeve and one by the shoulder). It does say 42L. Thanks for your interest.

The pulls aren't that big a deal, but there is some serious wear to the lining of the interior pockets, as though the previous owner had clipped a pen inside the pocket. The jacket is also in serious need of dry-cleaning, not smelly, but obviously worn quite a bit since it was last cleaned with some droplets of crusty matter that I hope were food on the lapels and a sort of greasiness along the inside of the collar.

The jacket fits great and is otherwise as described. Is it worth trying to send it back or dispute it, or is this pretty normal for Ebay transactions? I usually only buy BNWT on Ebay, and this is the first time I have had a problem of this sort. Any advice would be appreciated.

I would ask for a cleaning fee back and maybe something extra since the condition was not up to snuff.

Otherwise send it back and get you $$ back

So do you always set yourself up for disappointment or just when it comes to eBay?

guess you've been drinking the Donahoe KoolAid. If you want a retail experience go to a retail store and pay retail prices.

Get it drycleaned and move on.

You've got nothing to lose by emailing and asking the seller for a smaller tiny compensation since the jacket was not 100% like you thought it was. You may have that extra fee or not but at least it's work asking. Sellers are scared that you give them negative feedback, so most will do anything, within reason to please you

Wear to the inside of the pockets? What does this even mean? Not going to lie, checking the lining of pockets on sportcoats isn't exactly at the top of my priority list when listing things on Ebay.

did you buy from a seller that offered a return policy? i'm not sure it'd be fair to dispute it if the jacket was as described, and you bought from someone that didn't offer a return policy. also, i am guessing you bought the jacket discounted for what it would have cost at a store brand new. you'd have to expect some sort of wear and tear off a cheap used jacket. why dont u try dry-cleaning it first and see how it feels then?

Not to the lining on the inside of the inside pockets, wear to the lining around the opening of the inside pockets, so its visible without having to look for it. Not a big deal obviously, but it probably should have been mentioned. In my previous Ebay transactions, when someone has described an item as new or like new, it has been.
