I think Tiger won with that shot. I would have to think that just killed DiMarco's confidence.

Nevermind, there goes the sand trap.

I'm glad I got to go to the practice round this year, especially since it looks like it might be Nicklaus's last year.

How did you think that jacket fit Tiger?

Seriously, I was hoping DiMarco could pull a rabbit out of his hat, but that chip-in on 16 was probably too much to overcome.

Let's see, Tiger's got four green jackets, official arm candy, a bazillion dollars. And the way he smoked today I'm guessing he's going to take a run at the Slam.

But I still think Annika Sorenstam is better.

Eh, Annika is good, but she doesn't have anything on this man. I thought his green jacket was a little bit big, but I didn't see anyone at Augusta whose green jacket fit outstandingly; as I understand it they aren't very well tailored. Then again, the only single-vented sack jacket I would ever wear would be a green jacket, but that isn't going to happen.

    Anyone here ever played Augusta?

In the Jack Nicklaus filler program before the actual coverage started, they had a tape of Nicklaus talking about his first green jacket. When he won for the first time, they gave him a 46 L jacket when he wore a 43 R. They later replaced that with a hand-me-down that had belonged to Thomas Dewey. He didn't actually get a jacket that remotely fit until 1998. And this is Jack Nicklaus, the most important golfer that Augusta National has ever known (with the possible exception of Bobby Jones).

When did Nicklaus finally get a membership at Augusta? I thought it was more recently than 98 but perhaps that explains why he got a new one that fits. I've got to go with Bobby Jones being more important to the Masters and Augusta than Nicklaus. I imagine in the next decade Woods will surpass Nicklaus's record, but Jones will always be the most important figure to the tournament and club.

The man won the tournament 6 times. I don't care when he became a member; he deserved a non-hand-me-down jacket that fit a lot earlier than 1998.

I agree with you there; I think every champion deserves a fitting jacket. I was trying to come up with an explanation of why he would have gotten a new jacket in 98.

    Regarding the Green Jackets:

I read somewhere that when Tiger won his first Masters in '97, he ordered a jacket two sizes too big, figuring he'd fit into it after he'd won the tourney a few more times.

The jacket may still not fit perfectly, but you've gotta admire his confidence.
