Yes, I realize they're sketchers and while I would normally discount them for that fact alone, I actually like the way they look. Price with 20% discount and free ship doesn't hurt my wallet at all, either. I prefer a simple, clean look.

As yet another addition to my holiday spendaorgython, I figured I'd pick up some ankle boots to throw in with my usual suspects of casual shoes. I'm looking to keep this below $100 since Denim Bar's already getting a piece of my wallet's soul in another week or two.

My brothers, any recommendations?

The reason why you spend so much money on clothes might be because you want to spend fifty-six dollars on something that should cost upwards of one hundred and fifty-six dollars. Save some money, buy a pair of RM Williams, and you won't need a new pair of boots until you're too old to even care about new boots.

Stay away from those. They are actually worse then they look, which is a difficult feat in itself. Ditto on save your money on some RM Williams. If you like this style of boots, keep an eye out for some Varvatos on eBay. They're under $150 all the time.

For similar but better made, I guess you could find these from Kenneth Cole or Varvatos. Maybe a few others.

I really hate these, though.

Those, but wait till you can get them for about $120 or so (they do a 20% off on shoes, then you can use 15% off coupon)

Drizzt...those look great, but like I said before, the elastic's what's killing me. I guess I'd like something a bit more traditional but I also have visions of the elastic stretching out after a few months and becoming/looking warped. Otherwise, I'd say varvatos look like a great fit for me.

That's not going to happen in a few months. More like a few years, if you wear them every day, and a good coobler will probably be able to repair that.

RM williams rock; stylish, sturdy, well-made and fairly priced. However he doesn't seem to want chelseas, do they make some chukkas or zip-up?

PS: whodini: I'm pretty positive the zippers on zip-ups will get messed up before the elastic on chelseas and both take a while. Considering they can be repaired and in many cases it will also be time to resole them I'd get rm williams/varvatos/loakes or whatever. RM williams seem to pack a lot of bang for the buck though and their iconic nature is a plus.

I've got a year and a half old pair of frye chelseas with elastic sides and the elastic is exactly as it was the day I bought them. The elastic really only recieves any stress when you take off and put on the shoe.

fear not the elastic.

my blundstones have been holding up great, though i won't suggest you buy them as they don't even remotely resemble the skechers.

Hmm...Maybe I'll see the error of my ways and pursue the elastic.

Maybe it's the GetSmart in me, but it just doesn't seem Trad.

I'll take a further look around but I appreciate allt he RM rec's. I'll probably go down that avenue in the long run.
