"And the dress code is business trends." Business Trends??

Could someone please give me an idea of what is meant by "business trends" in this sentence?

Some context: I sent a résumé to a talent recruiting company and they emailed me back requesting an interview for a job as a "scout" for them. At the end the woman added– "And the dress code is business trends".

I ran a search on google as well as this site and couldn't really find anything. As far as I can tell it just refers to what is currently the trend in business dress, I don't know.

So, any advice about what I should be wearing to this interview would be much appreciated! It's set for Wednesday so time is limited. Also, I'm 22, in case you find it relevant.

Many thanks!

Call and ask.

That doesn't seem like good advice to me. I generally try not to point out mistakes by people I'm about to interview with, or to suggest to them that I can't figure out simple instructions.

The instructions were to wear a suit?

No, the instructions were to conform to the dress code that is "business trends". But I see you're just making a point.

I ended up formally confirming the time of the interview and then asking casually what was meant by "business trends".

I haven't heard back but at this point I'm just thinking I'll wear a navy blazer/grey slacks/white shirt and maybe a tie. In the end it probably won't matter at all as long as I'm looking like I have my **** together.

I'm guessing they mean Business Trendy - which I would think is either business or business casual with a bit of a creative license.

Haha **** I am an idiot for not running a search on "business trendy", which is obviously what was meant, and is actually the kind of set-phrase I would expect. Thanks, hopefully I won't seem an utter fool.

Full disclosure: I don't know if Business Trendy is an actual thing but it seems to be the only logical answer to me. Hope it helps!

Yeah I mean I don't really think so either, but I get the idea. Something like business/casual with a touch of fashion/celebrity/youth/class/fame, at one's discretion. Thanks for the insight though I don't know how I missed it myself.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
