I picture many people on this forum getting excitedly dressed up with pocket squares,
but then spending their entire workday sitting alone in some cubicle, with all their dandy efforts going unnoticed.

What is the compete opposite of this?

honestly, if you really want a serious job and to dress like a dandy, you probably want to be a staff executive, not a line executive. you need to be offering a knowledge based skill that you know very well and that provides value to your team despite eccentricity.

And? Yes, I do sit in a solitary cube on the floor of a large room and my dress is only noticed by a few office mates and passersby. But am I doing it for them? No. Are they doing it for me? Well, I'd be flattered!

Besides, it's not like I never leave the building, or go from home to work and back via vacuum tube. You may not believe it given my pale skin but the sun does grace the bare parts of my body. So, the people noticing my outfits are on the street, in the subway, at the bar (where it may actually make an impact!).

Anything visible, like a PR guy, salesman, even a secretarial position... anything where you are up and walking around and people have to look at you all the time. Even a teacher, or a lawyer... Well, maybe that's a big eccentric for a lawyer LOL This thread is funny

Fashion Retail and Consulting - I get paid to dress up as dandy-ish as possible so that my clients think I have credibility.

Back when I was working on Savile Row we had pretty free reign to dandy it up, however that was tempered by the cost; there is no such thing as a cheap option on savile row.

Kitchen Renovator.

No, that requires getting dirty.

owner/administrator of some clothes forum

No, that is an anonymous work from home career.
The guy that owns SF doesn't know the first thing about clothing.

Oddly, neither Styleforum nor AskAndy were begun by men with encyclopedic knowledge of lapel widths. As Jeremy Jackson, the founder of Styleforum, put it, ''I have no idea what these people are talking about.'' Mr. Jackson, a 25-year-old office manager at his stepfather's construction company in Seattle, had a mild fascination with clothes when he started the site two years ago. He had participated in an online fashion forum run by GQ magazine but found it too vituperative in tone. ''There was a lot of fighting,'' he said. Moderating Mr. Jackson's site to make sure tempers don't flare too aggressively is a San Antonio writer named Steve Brinkman, whom Mr. Jackson has never met.

PR guy might be sitting at a desk most days.
But for a media appearance, he gets to be seen.

Salesman is seen, but by only one person at a time.

Lawyer might be sitting at a desk most days.

Teacher is a very good answer, but is only seen by the same group of people each day.

What is the ultimate career to be seen?
