I picture many people on this forum getting excitedly dressed up with pocket squares,
but then spending their entire workday sitting alone in some cubicle, with all their dandy efforts going unnoticed.

What is the compete opposite of this?

honestly, if you really want a serious job and to dress like a dandy, you probably want to be a staff executive, not a line executive. you need to be offering a knowledge based skill that you know very well and that provides value to your team despite eccentricity.

And? Yes, I do sit in a solitary cube on the floor of a large room and my dress is only noticed by a few office mates and passersby. But am I doing it for them? No. Are they doing it for me? Well, I'd be flattered!

Besides, it's not like I never leave the building, or go from home to work and back via vacuum tube. You may not believe it given my pale skin but the sun does grace the bare parts of my body. So, the people noticing my outfits are on the street, in the subway, at the bar (where it may actually make an impact!).

Fashion Retail and Consulting - I get paid to dress up as dandy-ish as possible so that my clients think I have credibility.

Back when I was working on Savile Row we had pretty free reign to dandy it up, however that was tempered by the cost; there is no such thing as a cheap option on savile row.
