I need a pair of patent leather shoes for an upcoming wedding. Even though it's my first I'd rather buy a decent pair than rent as I'm a groomsman. On ebay there are two Allen Edmonds Spencers up for grabs; one is a 9 B and one is a 9 3E.

I have a normal width foot so which size do I get or is this a stupid idea? It's either one of these or a pair of Johnston & Murphy's.

the B will be a little tight and the E too wide. Try to go to grapehillvine and see what is cooking

not only an E, but an EEE.
go to a store and try a fit on to see.
when i was buying me AE's online, i went to a local store and tried some on to find out a was a D in the particular model. but note; all 'lasts' arent categorized the same in terms of their alphabet sizing

Neither of those shoes are going to fit. You coud maybe make a 9E or 9C work, but they would probaby be uncomfortable. A 9B or 9EEE will be really bad.

Call the Allen Edmonds shoe bank in Wisconsin. Ask for the Copley in 9D. They have tons of seconds in stock and can search other outlets, if they don't have it in the store. The Copley is the more appropriate patent leather shoe for your needs.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
