I just did NY>Boston this past Tues for work(switched from flying to the train 'cause of the weather.) No issues. bar car/wifi/etc. Just hope you are sitting in a nice quiet car. bring an MP3 player and you will be ok...

I've taken Amtrak from Montreal to NYC (an 11 hour trip) and my main complaint is that the food was inedible. That's not hyperbole. Soggy sandwiches from shrink-wrap packages. The dining car also offered some equally revolting microwaved meals.

Pretty shabby wagons too, but the tickets were dirt cheap.

Beautiful scenery though.

Watch your stuff, as my ipod got stolen once. I know this since the guy also took my gum. Someone must have taken it while I slept. I didn't know it was gone until I was home due to my earphones breaking. This happened literally right before I got onto the bus, so I didn't bother using it on the ride. Just my luck, huh? Be on time but expect delays.

It's been 9 years since the last time I did it. I was living in Washington state at the time. I rode it from Bellingham (where I was living at the time) down to Oregon (headed to the Portland Airport) and then back from Portland to Bellingham. I thought it was great, since the tracks were next to the coast of the sound, I got a chance to see parts of Washington that I hadn't seen before. Plenty of leg room and a smooth ride (though we did get stuck on the tracks but that was due to the weather - we had just had a big snowfall the night before leaving).

I'd definitely do it again.

Just did Acela Express from Newark-Penn to Boston last Friday. It arrived 5 minutes ahead of schedule and I slept for 2.5 out of the 4 hours. Good stuff. Much better than driving the 270 miles or going through the shitshow that is Newark International Airport.

Well I just got back a few days ago from my trip by Amtrak, it wasn't a bad trip, just very long. Trip was about about 19 hours. The scenery going through West Virginia was so beautiful though. Penn station is a **** hole, the conductors were really cool. Outside of the North East the trains are really slow; I probably will not do Cin-NY again, but I'll definitely do some shorter routes.
