I found this nice piece from John Derian:

It's a nice little plate that you'd use to place your keys in when you got home. It's a bunch of old stamps glued to a piece of notebook paper. The paper is encased in a polymer in the shape of the plate. It looks better in person.

That's not a bad idea if you think they would be into it, my girlfriend (a yankee) has brought my parents local arts and crafts type stuff a couple of times when she has stayed with them, because of the same problems you are having in finding something. And to the guy who asked if we have maple syrup? Seriously? yeah, you can get maple syrup in any supermarket.

I thought maple syrup was considered more of a Canadian thing tho?
