It just blows my mind that a "vendor" would treat his customer this way.
It sounds like you invested thousands, and had Ambrosi done right by you, I'm sure you would have continued to work with him over the long haul.
Ambrosi will eventually burn all his bridges, guys like this always do in the end.

It is indeed baffling. Craftsmen don't necessarily know how to do business.

When did you last try him? Happy customers post-2008 are a rarity.
As for the rustic finishing: well, it wasn't always so. Newer trousers are much sloppier in craftsmanship than older ones. My originals are really at another level and worthy of appreciation.

From what I understand the two folks on either sides are the new owners of Ambrosi. They've been active in pushing the brand in their native country Korea, as well as in Japan and other potential big markets. Maybe they're over pushing Salvatore's capacity???

That's more or less the way it was back in 2007 when I first started using them. You can find the glowing review online. However, the plan was to vastly expand production capacity through a new workshop or factory with many more workers. I don't know if that ever happened, but Salvatore has posted online suggesting the transition was in part to blame for delivery delays.

It is inexcusable to promise a customer that his product will be finished and shipped on a certain date, then delay it even further. This fast business expansion signals that Salvatore is biting off more than he can chew.

Last pair was delivered in early 2010.

Maybe rustic wasn't quite the right word. They look very handmade though there is nothing discernibly sloppy about them.

Out of interest, what is he charging clients in Asia?

Said it before and will say it again: I have Ambrosi's and I have Ercole's. The Ercole's are better.

I've ordered from both and I don't think Ercole can compare.

Maybe I just had bad luck and I really wanted to stick with Frank since he's such a nice guy but in my experience he just isn't a good fitter.

Some people here seem to be happy with him which is cool for them since at least the Brooklyn price is reasonable. Though even in terms of constructoin, I'd give Chan the edge in this price bracket.
