The eyelets seem crooked. I think I want to send them back to AE for replacement. What do you think? Am I nitpicking?

Doesn't seem too noticeable.. It's up to you, if it bugs you a lot, then return it.

This forum is all about nitpicking. If you don't like them send them back. They look off to me as well.

you are, and those shoes look quite well worn to judge from the creases so that the problem you perceive could be due to your feet.

It's not the eyelets it's the whole upper that looks off. Are those trees the right size?

Sorry but I don't see any issues with those shoes.

If they are worn, the time for debating this is past, IMO. It's the buyer's responsibility to check the goods for cosmetic flaws out of the box. If there's an undetectable quality issue that manifests later (upper comes apart, say), that would be grounds for a post-wear return ... but if you could spot the issue before wear, they're yours to keep once they hit the street.

They are brand new. I wore them for about 10 minutes around the house on the carpet to gauge the fit, and that's when I noticed the crooked eyelets.

Wear them, walk a few steps on carpet, and then take a picture please. Shoe trees can play odd tricks depending on size and how your placed them etc.

Regards.

The right shoe looks very different from the left shoe, and not just the eyelets. Look at the shoe trees. Look at the way the opening where your ankle would be is stretched longitudinally much more on the right foot than the left.

You are nitpicking. Get those shoes on your feet and get out there and live your life.
