Alternate Jackets with shirt and tie?

I'm shopping for a new 'go-to' jacket and I want to maximize versatility... something that I can wear easily with a t-shirt, jeans and sneakers, and can dress up to 'business casual'.

I understand the classic navy blazer can't be beat in terms of versatility but I'm just not comfortable wearing a blazer on a daily basis as a college student.

Are there any jackets that you guys would consider wearing with a shirt and tie other than suit jackets/blazers/sportcoats? Would you guys ever considering wearing a Harrington jacket with a shirt and tie?

As a college student, you shouldn't be wearing a tie outside of special occasions.

And yes, tweed.

A simple unstructured cotton jacket/blazer in a solid color will suit your needs well. If you're really on the cheap go check out dappered.com's discussion of one available at Target. Not something I would wear but as a college student it would probably do you right.

Cord jackets for the cooler seasons.
