Altering Long clothes

I was wondering whether it's possible/easy to have a jacket or shirt that's long altered to regular.

Example: Making a 40L blazer 40R.

Quick answer is not really, because the taper of the sleeves will be wrong, and on a jacket, the pockets may not look correctly positioned in relation to the hem of the jacket. Some people do it though. Also the rise will be longer on long-size trousers, and you can't really alter that.
