Alterations to new suit with body weight fluctuations

Let's assume you gain a bit of weight for whatever reason.

Now let's assume you purchased a couple of suits and can't wear them because they haven't been altered yet.

Do you wait to alter them until that extra weight is gone or do you just get it altered now?

Can you bring in an old jacket and ask for a similar waist/nip on it even if it is a bit tight at the moment?

As with a lot of things: it depends. Do you have an actual plan and timeline for the weight loss? If you do, and you're on track to hit your target, I'd say it's better to wait - no sense in going through the alterations multiple times. If it's more of a 'I hope I lose weight magically' (!!) then might as well get them altered now.

I would wait till I lose them if its me.

Even the suits with the exact same cut/model have slightly different measurements due to manufacturing fluctuations (higher delta if its hand-made).

Why would I do that? I wanted to get alterations to take the sides in - it's the degree of how much to take them in that's a concern. It's not like I bought the wrong size like someone, complained to the company about my own mistake, and then created new threads in 2 different forums hoping someone would care, said I wouldn't come back to those forums and then did. If I did that, then I'd shop at Rochester Big and Tall.

Are we talking like 10 pounds or 20+? If it's something you can achieve realistically, I would wait.

Jackets have a 7 inch drop. I think I've put on around 5-7 pounds. It comes down to how much I should get them taken in (ie I'd rather not have it taken in twice).
