Tailor's Keep does excellent work, and at a higher cost than other alterations tailor's I've worked with in SF.

Can anyone recommend a tailor who could slim down jeans? I keep hearing that denim requires specialized equipment, is that true or could any tailor do that kind of work?

Problem w/ them is parking for us suburbanites. A year or two ago I
was thinking of them making me some slacks on a whim. I was in the
neighborhood, never found a spot and the whim passed.Is there a public
parking garage nearby?

Yes, ue Portsman Square garage which is about a block away on Kearney St. between Clay and Washington.

Thanks. I should have remembered that. Haven't been in SF since I attended an
event the last weekend in February. Usually go for concerts, opera, etc. all cancelled.

If by chance you venture to Berkeley. I can’t recommend Advanced European Tailoring enough. Zolton the tailor is a master. Located on Adeline right near the Berkeley Bowl. I sell men’s custom clothing and often send my clients to him and get things tailored for them there. He understands garment construction and how to deconstruct and reconstruct a garment. Plus he’s easy to deal with and a pleasant human being. He’s been closed but if you go and knock on the door he’s typically there.

I have used Andreas Gorges quite a bit as well, with great results overall.

However, the post above asked specifically about alterations recommendations in the East Bay.

Based on this thread (and others - sadly, search seems to be turning up a lot of retired tailors in SF), I took a jacket to Andreas Gorges the weekend after Thanksgiving. I didn't need it by a particular date, since it was a test for him to see how well I liked his work. It's now January and I have no idea when I might get my jacket back...

I called Tailors Keep. They no longer do alterations on clothes they didn't make for you, but highly recommended Martinez Tailors, who is upstairs in their building. (Martinez has an address on Columbus, and Tailors Keep is on Washington, but the building is on one of the weird triangle corners.) I think he's done some work for them in the past, though it's not clear if he worked there or they just used him to do some of their alterations.

My job for him was very straightforward and not a great test of skill: I needed to add about half an inch to the sleeves on a jacket that otherwise fit pretty well, though he let the sides out a bit, too, and I had some regular-workday wear wool slacks hemmed. His prices were basically in the same ballpark as Gorges.
