Almost all light beers taste the same

Reposted more appropriately here:

Recently, I've started doing a quick game at get-togethers and on road trips.

Buy four or five kinds of light beer - the big three - Coors Light, Miller Lite, Bud Light - and then two wild cards - like Natty Light, Michelob Light or Heineken Light.

Before you start, everyone, especially the guys, will insist that "I'd know [x-beer] anywhere! That ****'s nasty," or "I love [x-beer], I'd know it anywhere." Calmly explain to them that there is virtually no difference, that it's all marketing.

I've done this game six times now. No one has ever guessed all five correctly (except me one time

but it was sheer luck) and the most common score, by far, is 1 beer guessed correctly. You can do the same thing with regular beers too, but they're a little easier to distinguish.

Good way to pass time on roadies and good sit-around-and-bullshit type of game.

So you buy 6 or so kinds of crappy beer and exclaim "almost all beers taste the same"? Huh?

I wouldn't know what either of those tastes like because I don't drink any of them...

You have awful reading comprehension. I'd explain it to you if it didn't require text.

Almost all crappy "light" beers taste the same... not all beers.

Btw I'll say all taste similar, but metally have the greatest distaste for Natty and Miller. Most must be in my head.

I'd encourage you to try to distinguish Amstel Light and Heine Light. Good luck.

I've done this a couple of times with around ten beer brands. We played guess the brand and score the beer. I don't think I've ever guessed more than 3-4 right. More embaressing I've given one of my then favorite beers 'Brand' (= the brand name) a 3 because I thought it was 'Pitt'.

Still when you have 2-3 beers at a time and start of with a cheap one. The difference is more clear.

agree, btw, although I have an affinity for Miller lite just because the name uses 20% less letters than Coors Light.

Okay, it's really just that they had better promo posters back in the day.

What would happen if you throw in something that is not a pilsner? Do any make light beers from other types of brews?

I don't like pilsners. I find them to have far too many bubbles and to be served far too cold. And, no I'm not Irish or English. I like cool dark beer that is more nutty and malty.

First two beers that I had were a Miller lite and a Coors. The former was more bearable than the latter, and it stuck. To this day I don't like Coors. I may actually try this just to see if it's the association or some sort of distinguishable flavor difference.

Light beers can be a refreshing beverage that just hits the spot on a hot day after some strenuous activity. It also can serve as a good session beer for its drinkability.

Yeah crap american lagers are tough to distinguish between, but I can always tell the difference between one of those and a good pilsner.
