Is anyone interested in doing a Carmina MTO in alligator? We would need 6 for an order through Epaulet. Thinking an 80175 or 10027.

Alligator chukkas? That'll be pricey

When it comes to the actual quality of croc gator skins, do the big shoemakers like EG, GG, JL, Cleverley, etc always get the best skins? Or do those shoemakers who specialize in croc/gator shoes have access to the best skins? From what I've seen on this thread JL and GG seem to have the best skins but I haven't done too much research on exotics

I suspect it's just a matter of cutting efficiencies. Smaller skins have smaller more refined tiles--the proportion/percentage of waste (which is paid for) is greater on smaller skins than on larger skins. For that reason alone, manufacturers will gravitate towards larger animals simply because of the costs...economies of scale, as who should say.

And larger tiles always look rougher and cruder.

I have access to great quality alligator and croc...and, realistically, I've got zero buying leverage.

Yes I do remember reading somewhere on this thread that you have access to some of the best Nile croc skins out there so I guess really all shoemakers could source the best exotics with the right amount of research. DWF which shoemaker(s) do you think source the best croc hides?

Probably something they stocked to go with that Phineas Cole line.

I think these are they same model that Ron Rider was closing out a couple of years ago for $249. My son has a pair and I'll check with him.

Hermes owns the top tannery of exotics in the world so I suppose JL (a subsidiary) would get first pick of all the shoe makers. That's why they gobbled up all the best tanneries, so they wouldn't have to compete for the best skins.
