As rumored, AE has their new styles up, and one of them is indeed a Chelsea boot. Gorgeous from the picture, can't wait to get one!

Hmmm, what's the deal with the rubber sole? Is this still a welted shoe?

looks like AE finally made it over $300 for their basic dress shoe price. The park avenue is now $305.00.

I wish an American maker would make a nice, sleek monkstrap and blutcher with a well finished, good looking sole and heel. Johnston and Murphy does one for the Japanese market but of course you can't get it here.

Looks like a Dainite sole. Presumably still welted (360-degree welt!), but even from the decription they're clearly treating more as a dress-casual than a dress shoe.

Looks pretty good, although I'm irked that they've bumped all their prices.

The new double-monk has a leather sole.

Can someone explain the reason for A-E to use a 360 degree welt stitching? This is one of the main reasons I find A-E clunky looking.

The C&J is beautiful. But why is it so hard to find English shoes in wide widths in this country?

It's their signature. They always use a 360 welt. They wouldn't be AE otherwise.

I happen to like it. I prefer the look of solidity.

There's a bigger market for wide widths in the US, due to the obesity issue. I'm not surprised that American manufacturers that sell predominantly in America are the sole company to address this market.

They went up less than Brooks did. Brooks jumped up about $50 in the past year or two, from $378 to $398 (some styles) to $428 in the latest web update.

Hey there, now. I'm not obese! I just have wide feet. Always have had, even when I weighed 150 lbs.

true, there's always some random variance around the mean for people at normal weight.
