I am new to the forum and have recently purchased the Allen Edmonds Shelton. After reading these forums I emailed AE and asked if their Polished Cobbler is corrected grain. I have posted their response below.

Thank you for your interest in our Allen-Edmonds. Our polished cobbler is a calfskin leather that has been polished to a gloss finish. A corrected grain leather is a leather that has been sanded to smoothen the surface of the leather. This is not the process of our polished cobblers. If you have any further questions please call toll free 800.235.2348 and speak with one of our representatives.

Sincerely,

Tina Lemanski

The point is several people indicated that they believe AE uses corrected grain in the Shelton. Therefore, I emailed to see if it is made from corrected grain. That's why I asked if Polished Cobbler is the same as corrected grain.

By the AE definition in the OP " AE custom calf" is corrected grain.

By the SF definition "AE Polished Cobbler", Church's "Bookbinder" et al. are corrected grain.

Tranlation: No, we don't sand our leather before we coat it with some glossy crap that will crack over time so technically it's not "corrected grain" it's "polished cobbler".

yep... I wanted the burgundy-black version of the Shelton until I saw the used ones on eBay which consistently looked cracked and worn to **** seemingly no matter how much wear they actually have

I'd love to score a pair of the black sharkskin shelton's. It's unfortunate that AE used "polished cobbler" for this shoe, it would be great in a full grain leather. Polished cobbler is definitely corrected grain by most accounts, very cheap and chintzy.
