Hey all-

I was wondering if anyone had information on the discontinued (I think...) Allen Edmonds Sanford model.

I have a pair of black Park Avenue's in the same size as a used pair on e-bay (see link) and I think these would be a nice compliment.

Are they built on the same last? A similar last? How will the fit compare? Any other thoughts on these?

They don't seem like a killer deal, but definitely solid.

Thanks in advance!

I was told by several AE sales rep that differences in last have no impact on the fit of the shoe. I went and tried on several different shoes and did not notice any differences.

The only times when fit deviated from my norm was with the slip-ons when I had to go a half size lower.

That is total BS! As a seasoned purchaser of A-Es, I can testify that differences in the last make a significant difference in the fit of the shoe. That's what different lasts are supposed to do, dammit! If they didn't, why don't makers of quality shoes stick to a single last and be done with it?

Happydayz salesperson is wrong. Go read AE's own descriptions of its lasts and ask whether those imply that they all fit identically. insp, the shoe you linked to isn't a sanford, it's an evanston.

Isn't Sanford on 5th last? If so,it should fit just like PA.
I bought a pair myself but haven't received it yet,we'll see how they fit.

I'm wearing a pair of Sanfords right now, I'm not sure I can comment on the fit though as I've never tried on any other Allen Edmonds.

I usually wear a 7UK and these are a 7US but fit very well. My usual shoes are probably a bit big for me and I'm used to doing them up tight; when I first got the Sanfords I did the same and got a bit of pain on my instep. Maybe because I'd also never worn bluchers before. I started tying them looser now though and there's no discomfort at all...

Haha. Realized that would be a controversial thing to say about the lasts. I was taken aback by the comments as well. When I asked for clarification the explanation was that the differences in last are stylistic only and should not impact where your foot fits into the shoe. For example there may be an elongated toe, however that doesn't mean that you need to change size in order to accomodate what is a cosmetic difference.

I was skeptical of the claim. However I tried on many different lasts and like I said only noticed a difference in fit between slip-ons vs lace-ups. I was also told this by 2 salesman at the store (the Port Washington Corporate HQ) and also in the presence of a manger.
