Just noticed that AE updated their site and they have some sort of recrafting sale for those looking

PS. They've also included a video that shows the process of recrafting

Does anybody know if they will recraft shoes bought at a discount store that have the 2 holes in the sole (to denote not reurnable I presume)?

i'd like to know this as well, but think about it, if you got them resoled elsewhere before the recrafting you wouldn't have the holes either... i am sure they would honor either way

Also, in the before and after pictures they seem to have drastically reduced creasing but there is no step in the video (it would seem). Is this camera trickery?

True. Also, the ones I get anyhow are not seconds, but returned to the store and then resold. So AE got their money for them, it is presumably just to protect the retailer with a too liberal return policy.

I've been reading that some people have been denied the recrafting if it has been resoled elsewhere (they know because the soles used are not the AE soles)

Are you talking about the holes in the sole, or two holes in the insole? I have a pair of AE's I bought at the store and 2 pairs of AE's I bought from the Shoe Bank, and neither have holes in the sole. However, they all have two small holes (like a stapler mark) at the foot of the insole. I presumed this was how they attach the insoles to the shoe.

Not in my experience. I bought a used pair of Byrons that were pretty creased and beat up. I sent them in for recrafting and they came back looking great. There is a still a tiny bit of creasing but nothing like it was before.

Alright, Alden. Let's follow suit. I've got two pairs that are ready for recrafting.

Definately a 2 punched holes in the sole of one shoe. This is how Nordstrom's marks their non-returnable shoes.

Most of my AEs were purchased new for $75-$150. I'm not sure if it's not a better idea to just buy a new pair rather than recrafting at 2/3 to full replacement cost. Thoughts?

Depends on if you really like the shoes and if they still make them. I've only recrafted discontinued ones.
