Can you tell the difference in terms of appearance between the two? I know the Quinton has a rubber sole, but will an onlooker notice?

Isn't it only the bottom 1/4" of the heel that has rubber? Chances seem very slim (literally) that anybody could tell in the real world.

This sounds like you don't know the difference between a rubber soled shoe and a leather soled shoe.

i didn't, but as of 25 seconds ago, I do. Rubber looks far less formal.

The McClain is a leather soled shoe, while the Quinton is a Dainite soled shoe which is better for walking on wet of slick surfaces. The Quinton will come across as less formal on a warm summer day, but more practical on a cold wet day.
