I'm looking at a pair of used burgundy MacNeil's on eBay. MacNeils are normally available in only black calf, model #9107, and burgundy cordovan, model #9097. These have been resoled and reheeled, so I can't tell from the stamp and half-heel. It would be nice to figure out if they're cordovan just from the numbers printed inside: 12 D 66558 5 9187 COMB 3316 (Emphasis mine) Thanks for your help.

I used to own a pair of macneils in black cordovan that I bought on ebay (and later resold). Just fyi. Also, if you call AE with the model #, they will tell you what leather it is.

hmm, could be shell. broad ripples, no evidence of fine creasing. could be that the seller got the number wrong.
