A guy I know said he would sell these 3 pairs to me for $150. Allen Edmonds Grayson, Allen Edmonds Glasgow and Johnson & Murphy Signature series (doubt that's the correct model). I've included some pictures - they aren't the best and if I've uploaded them wrong just let me know.

Since I'm still learning from you guys - I figured I'd check what you all thought before I "jumped". Your thoughts?

You didn't say if they fit?

Either way, I don't know why you would want three black pairs of moc toe shoes. I find one pair enough. They all look pretty similar to me. The first pair for $50?

Moc is short for moccasin. See the stitching that goes on the top of the shoes, around the toe area? That is what is called a moc toe. Nothing wrong with it, but as mentioned it looks like you'd be getting all the same style, when you might want some variety instead.

Makes sense, thanks for the info. Would these shoes be difficult to sell even if I broke even? size 10.5.

what would be some other styles to have in the collection? Sorry I'm a complete noob.

Thanks

Good deal if you actually need the shoes and they fit you.

Don't make the mistake of buying shoes just b/c they are cheap.

Moc toe shoes are relatively informal. If you need a more formal shoe, you should look at cap toe or plain toe shoes. Generally the less stitching and decorative elements, the more formal the shoe. If you are looking at getting your first dress shoe, many recommend something a bit more formal like a cap toe without decorative elements, as it is usually easier to "dress down" a formal shoe in an informal setting, compared to trying to wear an informal shoe in a formal setting.

Wingtip shoes are also relatively informal, but offer a different style than a moc toe and can give some variety.

Brown and other colors can also be good for variety. Some think black shoes are difficult to "dress down", for example with jeans. This depends in part on where you live and the local standards of dress in your area, as well as the social circle you tend to hang out with, so it's difficult to give general advice, but it probably wouldn't hurt to have a few different shoes in any case.

Pretty decent shoes, but 3 pairs of black shoes? Just get one nice pair that you like then get other colors. I made that mistake.

Hey guys...seriously thanks for the help. I'm in need of a couple new pairs of shoes so if any of these don't work I will just sell them. I've seen several guys with burgundy shoes....what belt would you wear with those?

Thanks

There's more to shoes than just colors, you know. The kind of occasion you're wearing it for should help determine the style and the color you need. It just doesn't sound like you've thought this all the way through...

My "functions" consist of 5 days/week biz casual work dress and church on Sunday which has become more informal. I very rarely have a "dress" function to attend as my circle doesn't involve any if these activities at this time...needless to say, I've never given it much thought due to a finite budget and lack of social need, however I recognize the necessity of at least familiarizing myself with proper dress should either of my 2 situations mentioned earlier change.

So, to answer your question....no, I have not given color, style, and function requirements as much thought as probably 99% of the members on here.
