Allen Edmonds inconsistent sizing

Hi All,

I just received a pair of Allen Edmonds Cliftons that I ordered off of Ebay. They're both size 10.5 D, but the two shoes appear to be slightly different. The inner sole of the left shoe is black, while the inner sole of the right shoe is cream colored. The heel of the right shoe is slightly smaller than the left, and the right shoe appears to be slightly more narrow. I'm not sure if the seller purchased each shoe individually. Does this seem typical/atypical for AE--have they changed their sizing over the years?

As of now, the fit on my right foot is slightly tigher. Will this likely even out over time? Any special tips on breaking these in so that the fit isn't irregular?

Thanks,
David

You might have bought a 'second' or 'irregular' pair...

Do you still have the eBay listing?

They're seconds and the potential defects identified in the listing include irregular sizing. That said, post pictures of the shoes so we can try to help. I find it especially curious that one shoe has the old black insole and one has the current tan insole.

It took some work to extract the photos but here they are....
Right-Click, select 'Open In New Window' to see each photo full size:

Spoo and others will know more than I do about Ebay protocols.
That said, the footbed colour differences won't matter as, thankfully, your feet have no eyes. They can serve as an amusing conversation piece. The left shoe heel appears narrower than the right shoe heel. Comfort is what will matter now. Welcome to Styleforum.

Thanks, Man Of Lint! Yes, the left shoe is narrower. For now, the left shoe is more comfortable than the right. My biggest concern is if this will even out eventually.

If the difference in comfort is barely noticeable then it will get better. Perhaps wear them at home for a few days as a test run.
