For those who are interested, someone at AAAC claims to have seen the Fall 2011 catalogue (wha? Spring just came out...) and apparently the Fifth Street boot is in there. Link. He also attached a photo of a pair he bought last Fall, when AE was briefly making them to order for anyone who asked. Good for those who want to see what they look like when broken in.

Geoff,

Yes I have seen AE Fall 2011 catalog while trying shoes in AE store. This catalog was not officially realesed of course but stores have. In a fashion world it is not unusuall to have catalog raady for fall 2011 half a year in advance.

There were some other models , most notably Strwfuts, I skimmed through catalog, nothing else caught my eyes, it is mostly standard AE offerrings, little bit of everything, classic, executive collectio, crosstown etc.

I got an email from an SA at Harry Rosen that I've dealt with a number of times, and he gave me some info about the Fifth Street - thought some people might be interested:

• Black custom calf (#7715)
• Brown burnished calf (#7765)
• Seven-eyelet cap toe balmoral boot with medallion and perfs
• Full leather linings
• 5 last
• Butyl (oiled) leather sole
• Made in USA
• Size Chart 3
• $425 CAD (could change)

Geoff,

thank you for the update. Sadly I do not like medallion or broguing on my boots. Now I feel better that I got special edition one.

I had to Goolge the shoe just to see a pic of them. Something doesn't look right to me. Maybe I'm used to seeing taller boots? The shape looks long and sloped somehow, like it's not vertical enough.

It looks like it has an ultra low instep to me. That creates the effect of looking like a shoe with a boot portion jutting upwards at 90 degrees. I think it's also going to make the boot look very strange when worn. The laces are going to swell at the instep.

I'm really hoping the redesigned boot takes care of this issue. I'd like to purchase it as a rainy weather shoe.

I've actually seen a picture of the original design being worn. It had exactly the fit I'm describing. Maybe someone will post the picture.
