Allen Edmonds get bashed on the forum a fair bit for being blobby. I don’t agree as some of their lasts like the #5 and models like the strand do really look nice to my eye.

So I ask are these shoes blobby?

I'd spend $1000 on those instead of enjoying myself before life got serious.

What are you trying to say, you agree they look blobby or you disagree they look blobby?

    By themselves they are not.

Don't really worry what Forumites say. A forum consensus "sleek" shoes would be too pointy and feminine by real world standard.

So the question to ask yourself is whether you want to please stranger on the internet or strangers in real life.

I LOVE my Allen-Edmunds. I have a pair that are 26 years old (recrafted once). They are gorgeous and timeless. All in all, I think I have 12 pairs of A-E. They last forever.

Es blobby? You decide. AE Strand: [IMG] C&J Selborne: [IMG] IMO the Selborne wipes the floor with the AE - it isn't even a fair fight.

    Complete, utter, bullshit.

I think the C&J look better. But, you have to consider the fact that:
    C&J: £361.99 (pediwear price) = ~510 U
    AE Strand: 280 dollars

Those strand's do look rather nice, but on the blobby spectrum, those are the most blobby I could ever tolerate, and close to the least blobby AE makes.

That's your opinion alright, but don't confuse it with some sort of universal truth.

    Some random observations:
    1. I find the Strand's balanced shape aesthetically pleasing. More so than the (overly, IMO) stylized C&J.
    2. Last 358, which the Selborne is on, is chisel-toe. AE #5 is more of a round toe. Apple vs. orange.
    3. The medallion on the Selborne is phallic-shaped. Seriously.

The cost difference is well worth it.
I find the heel portion of AE's worse than the front end.
An employee of mine had his Park Ave's on the other day, I had on some Borgioli's, we put them side by side and he was able to see the utter blobiness.
They are good value for the money, but if you can afford better, better=not blobby.

I started my statement with 3 important letters...
    3. The medallion on the Selborne is phallic-shaped. Seriously.
If your phallus is just twice the length of your balls, you might need to see someone... Hey man, just kidding - you have a point! [IMG]

I've always thought that they looked more like:

Money well spent, IMO. I'd take 1x CJ anyday over the equivalent AE model. For me, AEs remind me of...

... both are just as elegant IMO. [IMG]
