Exactly. My post was only for "routine" care, not special circumstances. You shouldn't expect your shoes trees to absorb a cup of rain water.

Yeah, I saw that too, and I didn't seek to expand on that. I have never moved into the realm of shell, so my advice ends at calf. [IMG] I believe SevenFold knows his stuff, and I definitely wouldn't seek to argue with Alden on caring for their products.

I have a pair of AE Cambridge Cordovan wingtips that I polished myself for the first time yesterday. I used Renovateur and then applied the Sapphir No. 8 creme polish.

The color and shine looks pretty good. HOWEVER, apparently my buffing with a microfiber cloth ripped off some of the stitching on top of the shoe! (Specifically, the stitching around the broguing on the top of the captoe of the right foot.) Frankly, it doesn't look good...I had to take a scissor to it to trim it back down to size so it isn't too noticeable.

Is this the kind of thing for which AE would replace my shoes? I've only had these for about 5 months, and I don't even wear them too often. I'd hate to relegate a $500 pair of shoes to the scrapheap.

Way to live up to your username. :hide:

Firstly, I suggest you not use cream polish on shell, rather go for the Mac method. Secondly, did you rip the whole thread of, or just some of it? A pic. would be nice.

Long time member but this is my first post ever. Just want to thanks Buckfan to let us know about the Wolverine 1000 miles boots and just got my pair in Russet today. Mine are definitely second quality but for the price, I don't mine. I believe it runs half a size bigger than my BB Strand and will post some photos later. But for people who is worried about the color, mines look exactly like this picture:

Thanks go out again for letting us know about the Krause. Received mine today and they are great....no "seconds" flaws. there are just two slight scrapes/rubs that will buff out(like when you lightly scrape your fingernail on leather). The boots fit perfect, true to size(perhaps just a very slightly more loose due to being unlined). This just means i can wear dress socks and once in a while if its cold, some thicker wool and leave the laces more slack. Someone asked what they would wear with these, I feel confident they will go well with most any casual slacks/pants you would wear your dressier burgundy shoes with. Here is a pic just seconds after i laced them up...as you can see they are quite at home with denim. The only thing i am not a fan of is the flat laces, but that is easily enough changed....a change of laces can also change the character of the boot quite a bit. Oh, and they are quite a bit darker than in my pic...they are closer to the color in the marketing photo(perhaps a smidge lighter since how i took my pic in high light, they took thiers with a lower light).....so, it comes down to perception.

I got my tan ones yesterday. I have the same leather imperfection on the side as well.

wow that heel is really tall. do you guys know if a cobbler can reduce the heel height on a pair of boots? or maybe i can have him glue a thick lugged vibram sole onto the forepart of the shoe (and not the heel) to reduce some of the discrepancy?

lol a convo with a female friend today. This is what she said when I told her I'm smart in how I spend my money because I'll spend a lot if it will last me decades:

"Smart in how you spend your money? Lmao suree. Im all on board with classic investment pieces but this doesn't mean that I won't buy anything expensive that's in style and on trend right now. Your shoes aren't classic at all and you've bought like 3 of them"

She thinks wingtips and brogue are not classic :foo:.

I encounter this sometimes too. I know it shouldn't, but sometimes this discourages me from buying nice shoes, because, what's the point? Thankfully I get more compliments for my AE's, so that makes it all better and worthwhile. Added to the fact that I buy my shoes for me, of course.

PS. My dad just bought some Brown Sanford's in near pristine condition at the thrift/retail shop for... 30$!!
