Thanks for the info; I didn't realize that the Clifton was on an 8 last (since it's a discontinued model, the info doesn't appear to be listed on the AE website). I actually own a pair of Delrays, and they fit me quite well, so that's reassuring.

I feel like I shouldn't be buying myself more shoes with Christmas so near, but I just may have to pull the trigger on those burgundy Clifton's. If I do, I think I will have to call a moratorium on any new dress shoe purchases until well into next year. Now I know why people warn about the perils of developing a pricey AE obsession... Firefox, how much did they quote you on the Clifton?

I have a pair that I bought for the same price either last year or earlier this year. Don't recall what the description on the site was but I posted pictures earlier in the thread IIRC.
I emailed yesterday and received a response within minutes.

These look so nice. I just wish the welt was less pronounced.

Clifton is not a discontinued model. It's a made for Nordstrom model that you can also buy seconds of from the Shoe Bank.

Thanks for the clarification. I know that the shoe bank carries Cliftons, but I already checked with them and they don't have my size in burgundy.

This is correct, I just bought a brand new pair of cliftons 3 weeks ago from Nordstrom, they had quite a range of sizes in stock.

My multi quote isn't working so sorry or I would put in the pictures of the Cambridge's from Bucksfan and Winston once again, they deserve it. I didn't get the memo and wore those yesterday, looking at your pictures make me remember why I like them so much!

It does seem to vary for some reason also though. Out of the 5 pair of Dundee's that I have the welt on the walnut are less pronounced than the others. It is also the only natural sole. I wore them today, they are my favorite in the Dundee collection. Bad picture but:

I'm home now and already switched to the 744 Wolverine boot. I am breaking my own rules and have worn them every night since I got them. I like them that much, it will not take long to break them in at this rate LOL. Might push the envelope and wear them to work this winter a few times.

That's for business use, just prefer not looking too stiff with ones like Park Avenues.

I prefer sleek ones, hence Larchmont as a choice. In black, Larchmont vs McAllister with standard black pants?

And what's this about the Larchmont being 'oversized' and McAllister too narrow? Any truth to this? A 9D in McAllister will be a size what in Larchmont?

Great pic! I do like the red-ness of the old burgundy shell and this shows it nicely.

I think you guys have convinced me that I need to get plain toe shells... that shell color is beautiful and the plain toe really shows it off best!

Got my brown cordovan Patriots today.

The good: the shoe looks phenomenal and the brown cordovan color has a nice finish to it. in every way it is on par with an Alden LHS, minus the hand sewing on the vamp. It appears to be machine stitched but it looks almost like hand sewn--99.9 % of folks would not notice a difference. It is an all around solid design and should be very successful for AE.

The not so good: I'm not sure the fit is there for me. I ordered TTS (11B) and the length seems good, but the width is a hair wide. The vamp feels a little tight across the arch (like many have experienced with the Aldens) but not as bad as my BB LHS (which have loosened up over time). In comparing to my BB unlined LHS, the AE last has a more rounded shape to it. I think if I sized down the strap might be too painful, but I may consider it.

I may be sending these back but I need to spend a little more time wearing them tomorrow to know for sure. Right now the first fit impression is about 85%.

I will try to snap a few pix and post them tomorrow.

In other news, the brown Delrays i got (I have a chili pair already) look and fit awesome and the El Paso driving mocs feel great as well. Very happy with those purchases.

:embar: How trusting I was. Thank you. Oh well, my compliments to those advertising people.
