I didn't find my self wearing my black Mcallisters much in the US, but I live in Paris now and black shoes are the norm even in casual dress. I got mine Topy'd and wear them two or three times a week, either with gray flannel pants, raw denim or slate colored chinos. Paris is a very formal city.

Most men here tend toward very sleek whole cuts so I really do feel like I'm wearing gunboats sometimes, but that's really not my style. Yet.

I love those boots! Unfortunately I am a size 15. Does anyone think that AE will do a custom order for those? What last are they on?

Thanks for the advice. The one advantage of the Fifth Avenue is that it's a lot easier to find online (including SF B&S and Ebay) since it's one of the AE mainstays. But I'll e-mail the shoe bank and see what they are charging. I have another (non-AE) pair of shoes in burgandy, and I think that it's a really versatile colour. Walnut is nice, but maybe a little too "loud" and/or casual for my personal stylistic tastes.

Yep I got mine for $200 from the shoe bank. Wait for the next sale or so. Could even be at around $150.

So I traded in those 5th Avenue for the Mccallister in Burgundy. They only come in D width so I went with the 10D. The eyelet tabs have a pretty major gap between them. The red line is where my toes are so I think the length is fine but should I size up to 10.5?

So I take it I should definitely size up to 10.5 to close the eyelet tabs?

While I do like the Mcallister I do wish that the horizontal broguing in front of the laces was smaller. The holes seem too big on the Mcallister. Want something more like this:

    Maybe it's just me though?

Are you sure they are only available in 10D? I have shell McAllisters in 10.5E for sale... regardless, the length looks fine, however you want to make sure that the crease is where it should be during your step. Don't worry about the amount of space you have in the toe, and personally if your toes are right there, I wouldn't suggest going up to a 10.5. You'll end up creasing the shoe along the brogueing at the bottom of the eyelits, which you don't want.

How does the shoe feel? I would say go for a 10E if they made it. The website says they carry them, so unless you got them from Shoebank or wherever you should not have a problem getting them in a 10E.

They aren't, those are balmorals. These are bluchers.

Allen Edmonds has the Mccallister in all the widths, from A to EEE. I have been buying most of my shoes from Brooks Brothers through a friend, who's getting 50% off, cutting these shoes down to ~$200 after tax. At BB, they have the Park, Fifth, and Strand in all sizes and widths. The Mccallisters, however, only come in D width. I might have to revert back and pick up the Park in Brown. Returning this is an option but I don't want to bother this friend with returns on just a single item.
