1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

Quad: everybody knows how you feel about the toe cap issue. I share your opinion. However, let's not let that personal preference spill over into denigrating someone's individual shoes, especially when I suspect we're talking about someone on their second pair of nice shoes. Those Fifth Avenues are better than what most of the population is wearing.

Very diplomatic, New Shoes1. I would have been a bit more blunt because I think Quadcammer denigrates this thread with his posts.

I'm mostly concerned with water and salt. They will start creeping into the soles once the separation becomes larger. I should also note that there were several other small separations like that throughout the soles.

Those of us with large hands and feet rely on the cap toe to break up the length of the shoe. Oh, and also to let everyone know who has a big schwanz.

Thats how I feel...I mean, for me, since I have large feet the cap toe looks pretty good on my foot...it actually falls in a pretty nice place on my foot...but even if I disliked the captoe, I cant for the life of me see how people can fly off the handle over them the way they do...and then the same people turn around and jizz all over pics of the Fifth Street, which to my eye, has the exact same proportions as the Fifth Ave/Park Ave...It makes no sense. If one dislikes it, they dislike it...thats fine...and thats one thing, but to state as a universal fact that it is unappealing is downright specious IMO. It seems as though there has a been a bit an expectation conditioned into people to dislike one version of the the exact same captoe over other, simply because others have done the same.

    And you are not alone.

The PA - whether in spite of, or because of, its captoe placement - is, year in and year out, one of AE's best sellers. So apparently many men actually like it ......

Disagree completely. I think it's great. I don't know why there is so much hatred of it on this forum. It's a specific look. Enough said.

Middle row: RL Singleton, Neumok, Neumok, Players, Patriot, Fifth Ave, Williams

I bought my burg belt from there two years ago and it matches my Merlots very closely. Maybe it was just a bad dye variation for yours? Might want to check in with the owner and see if he can let you know when there are new batches in stock?

I don't like the short cap toe personally, but hate the shoe, not the player. It's personal preference, and I think it's fine.

And it is the iconic AE shoe. So why change it?

But I wonder why they sell so well. It could be that it is the short cap toe look that is appealing; but I also suspect that it is because the Park Avenue and its variants are the only conservative dress shoe that is Goodyear welted and high quality at its price point. Really, they have no competition.

Rather than changing the Park Avenue, I would like to see them add additional models with a longer cap toe, maybe on a different last. But maybe they are worried about taking away from the Park Avenue, and they already have "the" American cap toe dress shoe for the mainstream, so why fix what isn't broken? Maybe another cap toe would be perceived as diminishing the flagship shoe in some way.

In the US-store distribution market, this is true.

On a global scale, there are a number of better options for less money.

    For instance:

note the correct toe cap placement:

$272 shipped at today's exchange rate...with a combination heel. Quality is excellent, likely better than AE at the price point. Thats a full $60 short of AE's list price.

If you want a higher end model:

    http://www.herringshoes.co.uk/product-info.php?&brandid=6&shoeid=2023

    Made by Cheaney, $360 delivered.

Quick, everyone start posting about the need for AE to come out with dark brown shell Dalton's, an 8 last cap toe (with a well placed cap line), a functioning website, and better photo's of the shoes.

    What am I missing?
