Question - I have a pair of AE Wilberts and the tongue on both shoes always migrates toward the outside of the shoe. I'm not sure why this happens and it does not happen with any of my other shoes. This is annoying. What would you do about this minor problem? It looks bad because my socks start to peek out of where the tongue would normally be.

Perhaps you could talk them into a partial refund if they can't remake them. The defects really aren't that major (mine weren't perfect either, but I decided to keep them) so you may want to consider whether you could wear them if some of your money came back.

    Food for thought...

I had this problem with a pair of Indy boots. I had my cobbler sew the tongue to the shoe one side. I'm not sure how this would work on the Wilberts, but I will say that I have an older pair of made-in-the US JMs that have the tongue attached, and it is fine.

Here are pics I posted in the Rancourt thread: http://www.styleforum.net/t/197413/rancourt-co-shoes-made-in-maine/1125#post_5754740

Excited to learn that AE is bringing back the Jodox model as part of the Company's 90th anniversary festivities: http://content.allenedmonds.com/pdf/AE_Fall2012_CatalogSupplement.pdf

I've been looking for a vintage Jodox on eBay, Etsy, etc for a while so I'll definitely grab a pair when it's (re)released in December. For those whose tastes run toward the AE Leeds and MacNeil, or Alden Barrie last PTBs and LWBs, you might take a look at the Jodox. It has only two eyelets so it has a bit of a 1950s/60s look to it, but it sports the beefy double oak sole and has a very substantial -- some might say "clunky" -- feel to it.

My only criticism: it's not available in cordovan leather. I am not sure but I don't think it was available in cordovan back in the day either but, hey this is a 90th anniversary release so why not really celebrate with some color 8 or cigar cordovan options?

Patriot penny loafers: go same as Park Avenue size, size half down, or go full size down?

What last is it on? I'd like a suede PTB, but the catalog photo does not look appealing. Hoping it's just another case of AE's poor photography.

Thanks, Storm33, that's something to consider. Have you or anybody done this successfully? And what kind of discount or refund would they consider? I've emailed them already about this issue and sent them pictures. If they can't be replaced, I'll bring this up when I call tomorrow. Appreciate the suggestion.

I'm not 100% certain but I think it's a 7-last shoe, same as the MacNeil. The toe is slightly narrower than, say, an Alden Barrie last PTB. In it's day the Jodox was a great looking, hefty reverse-welted shoe. Hopefully AE remains true to the original Jodox with this re-release. If it does, and you like that style, then you'll be pleased.

Also, due to its plain toe and two eyelet styling, the Jodox can "appear" a bit longer than shoes with toe detailing (cap/moc toes) or more eyelets that carry further down the foot. It's similar to a chukka in this regard, and you either like this look or you don't.

One thing I noticed that's apparently changed with the re-release (if I'm reading their catalog correctly: http://content.allenedmonds.com/pdf/AE_Fall2012_CatalogSupplement.pdf ) is that the Jodox will not be available in "C" widths anymore. AE had traditionally been great about offering a full array of widths to maximize customers' ability to get a perfect fit. But that seems to have changed over the years, such that some models go from B to D width and skip the moderately narrow C offering, which can be a great option for clunkier style shoes like a double-soled goodyear welted LWB or PTB.

I was hoping for some input from my fellow AE fans.

I bought the brown Long Branch boot, but then also purchased the Bayfield from Lands End. I also plan on getting the chocolate brown Dalton, but with a Dainite sole (special order from AE). The question is: what to do with the Long Branch? I have 3 options, really. 1. return for refund 2. exchange for the grey colour 3. keep them. I think keeping them is a bit much since I'll then have three brown boots of similar look. Any input?

That's what I am leaning toward, but the grey is pretty nice in person. Maybe I'll wait till the Bayfields show up and see how much I like them.

What exact color are the Long Branches? Dark brown or the brown waxy leather? If dark brown, then return. If brown waxy leather, then you have a case for keeping them as those are almost like the walnut Dalton's in color (see previous posts). Also, the grey will be much less versatile if that matters to you.

But waiting to try the Bayfields is a good idea.
