It's a new model loafer. Similar to the Alden LHS. (Blatant ripoff?)

I think it's tied with the Westchester for the title of best AE loafer.

I started a thread on the Patriot last week:

So here is a random question... does anyone have experience with some of their AE's molding to your feet better than others? I don't think there should be any real difference between models in the thickness of the cork layer under the insole that would lead to this. However, I have found that my Finches have molded to my feet wonderfully, and are by far my most comfortable pair of AE's, whereas others don't seem to have molded nearly as much. Just curious about some other's experiences.

Price is certainly better, and construction is decent.

Also, AE's tend to fit me better because virtually every model comes in EEE width.

I'll say it, I have come to hate CXL after four pairs - three boots and one shoe. I find it to be an ugly leather - I recently re-conditioned a old pair of Red Wing Boots - the calfskin is stunning, and the patina is far better, deeper, than any CXL I have owned.

Red Wing is having their annual tent sale starting tomorrow through the weekend. Red Wing is less than 45 minutes from me and I will be going by there on my way back up North for another week on Friday morning, I cut across the river at Red Wing to keep from driving through the Cities if it is rush hour. I had worn Vasque Sundowners since the 70's and one pair actually went around the world with me. I've hiked much of both the PC and AT trails in them. Red Wing bought Vasque awhile back and the last pair I had the soles delaminated, I found out later Red Wing moved production from Italy to China. A couple of years ago I was in a Red Wing store and the salesman said they were aware of the problem but have since fixed it. When someone is interested in good work boots I will still take them to a Red Wing store but I haven't purchased any because of what they did to Vasque. Although I do have 2 pair of Irish Setters yet. I have considered stopping and seeing if they have a pair of Beckman in my size though. You did a great job on those boots seer.

The 7-97 last. Same last as the Macneils, Sanfords, and Westchesters.

My Webgem burgundy shell Daltons arrived this afternoon. Here they are, straight out of the box:

Hopefully I will get time to brush them and try them on tomorrow; although it may very well be next week before they make it back out of the box based on my schedule. I can't wait to break them in and see how they shine up!

PS - I was wearing my chocolate calf Daltons today. For whatever reason, that made it more exiting when the shell Daltons showed up.

Thanks! That is the exact boot I had in mind, I was going to buy it in December but it wouldn't have come in on time for my trip. Does anyone know why AE discontinued the Bayfield? It looks better than most if not all of their new boots.

I am also considering the Westchester in walnut for my lounging days. Thoughts?

When or how did you guys make your transition to boots? I'm still starting up my "normal shoes" collection and have yet to envision myself in boots. But clearly, I'm missing something here with how much you guys like your boots.
