I debated on it, but that natural sole choice was a stroke of brilliance, the contrast looks great on this shoe.

Like tiny specs of paint right? I've had the same issue using AE's cordovan cream.

When is the next sale? lol

Anyone know what are the usual sales for Black Friday and Christmas/Boxing Day? I have time so wanna pick up some during the best time to add to my black Park Avenues and Burgundy Cliftons (beautiful!). I am looking at Strands and Del Ray.

I am still waiting on my amsterdams, too. But it has only been about two and one half to three weeks. the stated time has not elapsed by my memory.

So I'm probably here because I'm looking for some biased confirmation.

I live in Seoul; it snows fairly regularly in the winter, and when it does, the snow stays on the ground for a while. It is heavily salted, so I was thinking of getting some rubber soled AE's.

If I'm looking for something in black, nice enough to wear with a suit if absolutely necessary, would the Memphis line work? If not, is there another AE line you guys could recommend?

    Kick ass! [IMG]

Love the edge choice. A couple of months ago, I stripped the finish off of the edge of some cheap ebay shell macneils with sandpaper and then applied some chili dressing and mottled it to partially create that same effect, but yours look killer.

Yours also remind me of some special order Alden PTB's I picked up in cigar shell (they are being refinished by Alden due to some welting from the rain, unfortunately), but one of our men's shop in Birmingham orders them as a special design on the narrowest Aberdeen last with a contrast welt line that really sets off the dark brown shell. I love that effect. Unfortunately, I have yet to take any good pics of that shoe, but here's a crappy one.

Looks like a winner, the walnut calf always feels extremely supple. I need to get another walnut calf shoe...

    1. AE cordovan shoe cream is awful. Just plain awful, IMO. I have treated shell shoes, over the years, at different times, with 5 products (Saphir reno, Saphir shell cordovan cream, Alden paste wax, Venetian, AE cordovan shoe cream), and the AE cordovan shoe cream is easily the worst. I threw mine away a long time ago.

    2. Thanks for the feedback on the Bradley v. Leeds.

Thanks everyone! I'm glad I asked.

I'm really excited to wear these! I have a feeling I'll be racking up some more pairs when the next sale comes around. The idea of getting these for my birthday and hopefully keeping the same boots for many more sounds very appealing.

As for care and maintenance, what would recommend for a guy without any products or accessories? I already have a pair of cedar wood shoes, but I'm still a bit foggy about the rest. I'm planning on getting these for the walnut calf Daltons:

    • Shoe Polish (AE's Walnut polish, Saphir's light brown, or possibly Kiwi?)
    • Cloth - I've heard everything from AE's cloth to an old tee shirt.
    • Horsehair Brush - Seems essential
    • Leather Cleaner, or saddle soap? Do I need both, just one, or neither?
    • .Horsehair dauber - Probably does a better job than a cloth/shirt
    • Heel/Sole dressing - Does anyone find these helpful?

I've also seen Saphir products come up, like its Renovateur.
