I think chili is a great color, and different enough from the walnut that it is worth getting. Dark brown is nice too, but I am thinking I would prefer a balmoral in dark brown, as I would most likely be wearing the shoe with a suit.

Also to the person asking if Chili and Walnut are sufficiently different: I would say so. I own two shoes in Chili (Delray and Fairfax which is a wholecut model) and one in Walnut (Strands). The Fairfax and the Strands are both balmorals and often work with the same types of pants (navy is my favorite), but I think the Walnut Strands also allow me to pair them wonderfully with grey and/or charcoal pants as well (something I don't really do with the Chili Fairfaxes.

    Hi all,

Planning on buying some shoe trees to go with my first 3 pair of AE's that I just got from the Shoe Bank (Walnut Strands, Black Cliftons, Burnished Brown Kenilworths. Was trying to go for maximum flexibility of wear - how'd I do?)

Should I go for the Combination/Adjustable shoe trees or the Full Toe trees?

Also, how should I prep the shoes before wearing? Should I seal or condition them in any way first?

    Thanks in advance,
    Murph

I have brown Delrays and just purchased black ones as well. I also have Walnut Strands and the shoe I wear the most are the dark brown Delrays.

This is pretty good for water proofing and sealing your shoes. [IMG]

You did good Murph, very well done. When you get the shoes inspect them first and take your time. Then wear them around inside the house for a couple of hours to make sure they fit your feet well. Then once your sure they work a thin coat of conditioner and brush them.

You have until tomorrow evening to go to http://www.cedarvillestore.com/p-14-mens-epic-twin-tube-shoe-tree.aspx and select your shoe trees at a good discount. Note that I am a 10D and the new chart shows a S but I always take a M in the epic tree. Add 4 of them to your cart. You will need that 4th for your burgundy shell Cambridge someday anyhow.... Type in the code B3G1F and the price will drop from $99 to $75 so you get the 4th one for free.

Don't know if the trees from nordstrom rack are of lower quality compared to cedar ville, but I get those at ~ $13 a pop

Thanks everyone for the insight on the chili vs walnut. I will probably be picking up the delray at the next sale (I'm guessing Black Friday?) as I just ordered the Park Avenue and Clifton yesterday.

I got the full shoe trees at $17 each from AE directly. The guy told me he prefers the full trees over combination as they are less finicky.

The Nordstrom Rack shoe trees are made by Woodlore, the same company that makes the AE trees. They're what I buy for my shoes.

I am struggling with figuring out which size Woodlore Epic to get. Like you, I am a 10D, but I suspect a small will not do the job. Did you ever try out the smalls? Do the mediums fit properly in your size 10D shoes?

This is a timely subject, because I ordered these a few weeks and got the wrong size. Apparently there was an issue with the sizing chart, and they had been running smaller than noted. I am 11D, and after reading through all of this, I went for an L instead of a M,as the chart says. And the L are HUGE in width; I should have gotten M. So the chart seems to be have been corrected now.

Having said all this, and after seeing them in real life and hearing what Cold Iron has to say, I would go M for 10D.

Also note that these have a high vamp, but run shorter than other trees. I think that's the way intended, but another reason not to go too small (even though I went too big).

    Confused yet?

    Another variation--Delray or Parkway?

I prefer the AE full shoe trees as well. I feel like they fill the shoes better.

I have never tried the small the chart always has had me at a Medium and they fit perfectly. Hopefully they have not changed anything except the chart as I just ordered 4. The Epic does have a high vamp. Which is perfect for the Dundee's that I have and the others that are coming. The epic in M seems to fit all my #1 last shoes spot on. For some of the 5 last shoes it is a bit high but they are cedar and it takes only a couple of minutes with sandpaper to shape them to custom fit. Cedar is pretty soft wood. At $18 each (4 for $75) they are well worth it IMO and are owned by AE, in fact they are across the street from the AE shoe factory and make the AE trees of course.
