Nice! Those are some snazzy gunboats.
well as long as there is a return policy on those shoes, i would say go for it. if not, then you can take the risk of them being a little off, in which you "could" fix any adjustments with how thick/thin your socks are. You have options at least... its nice to have a perfect fitting shoe, some something off by a tad can be negligible.
This was called the Clifton in a previous life? Anyway, this is EXACTLY the shoe they should be making! There should also be a plain captoe. Is someone from AE reading this thread?
Like the 5th/Park Ave? They are both plain black bal caps, the 5ths have a perforated cap where the Park is plain.
Also, this respectivaly identical to the strand without the brogueing on the cap. While I don't like the strand in black, I can't see them making two different shoes that have no difference except the toe.
Like the PA. Just so there is a more formal version.
You're probably right, in that AE considers the PA/5th, on the 5 last, to be this shoe. I just happen to like the 8 last.
But more importantly, the proportion of the toe cap shown on this shoe is much better than on the current PA.
IMO all of the perforations make it less formal... the PA is the only shoe I would consider "passable" as formal (enough for a tux.) And also, I agree with the cap on the 5th, its way too far pushed forward, but I think the cap on the PA is fine. Certainly not as bad/offset as the 5th.
If this was a 9.5D I would have already bought them...
Evanston in 12E, 8 last if i'm not mistaken.
I missed this earlier, but I believe AE makes a balmoral boot.....the Fifth Street. It's a cap toe with brogueing on the cap, and it comes in black or brown burnished calf. I would imagine you could check into custom ordering it with the leather you want (maybe).
No, the Soho and the Evanston were on the 1 last. I liked them enough to call the Shoebank to see if there was any old inventory floating around.
Very Nice, congrats! I'm wearing the same today. One of my favorites.
Chili dressing is a must. I use it for almost all of my AE walnut, AE chili, Alden whiskey shell, Alden ravello shell, and Alden cigar shell shoes/boots. Years ago I tried to buy the neutral from an AE retail store. The SA - indeed, the manager - told me to get the chili, and that the neutral is essentially worthless (note: I'm not saying it is worthless, just passing along what the manager told me). The chili dressing is very versatile.
Just make sure you wipe it down before it dries so that you don't get the red build-up (unless that is what you are going for).
Thanks for the correction, I think AE told me a month ago they were on the 8 last
A Strand boot would be amazing. I love the look of the Dalton, but I think a Strand boot would fly off the shelves as a dressier option.
Just caught my typo. That should say 0 last.
Separate names with a comma.
