Yeah it is true.
I thought the Independence Collection was going to be 100% made in the USA, but I guess they are not.
Not all of the upper are made in DR. It's not clear how many. The lower price point shoes, yes. My SA is opening a new AE store in August. I will inquire and update with any info I acquire.
Quite a few people are reporting that they seem to be receiving factory seconds (or worse yet, "thirds") at their brick and mortar Nordstrom during this anniversary sale:
Anyone here run into that? From the sounds of it, people are noticing obvious problems with the stitching/leather/colors, and an absence of the white factory sticker inside the shoe indicating it is of first quality. Additionally, people who have called to report their unhappiness with the quality of their shoes were told by salespeople to "wait a week" until the sale is over and then return them, which suggests that they know full well that they are pushing seconds right now (and if you return them now you may get another pair of seconds), but that once the sale is over they will go back to first quality shoes only.
That doesn't sound like Nordstrom.
Here is what the AE CEO said:
Here's the Macneil in burgundy shell after a bit of clean up work. They needed it as they haven't seen so much as a brush in a couple of months. They see wear once a week and are coming up on six months old.
This look great patrick, my shell macneils and Kenilworths look nowhere near as good as your polishing!
I agree, and other people on that thread agree, which is why they're so irked.
Nice shine on those.
This is disgusting if true.
patrick_b has some skills (which is an understatement).
I bought the Elgin in a 10D, compared to my other 5-last shoes in 10.5D, and it fits me equally. The saleswoman at the Shoe Bank told me that the "rough collection" run a half-size big because the leather upper has to stretch over a bigger area due to the shoe construction. I'm sure somebody who understands what's going on could give a better explanation than me.
After seeing those perhaps I should look into the Cambridges in burgundy
