Happy Birthday and yes you do have a great wife! Hmmm by chance does she have a sister that is single??? [IMG] Great boot.

Congrats and thanks for the picture! What is your thoughts on the AE black shell? It looks pretty good to me from here. As did those black shell Leeds that were posted the other day.

Also if you don't mind me asking did FedEx require a signature when they delivered them? I just realized that when I got my last shipment from AE they now use FedEx and did not require a signature. Which could be good, and bad... Damn I had the UPS guy trained to wait till the end of his route to delivery to me so that I was home.

Ouch! Have you tried stripping them with Renomat? http://www.hangerproject.com/closet/saphir-reno-mat-cleaner.html#.UF449I1lR2w

I don't like to use much if any product on shell except for brushing but every 6 months or so on the walnut shell will use a very thin coat of Saphir cognac wax. I purchased the cordovan clear from Saphir but have never used it. After ordering the Alden defender not sure that I ever will. Good luck, hopefully you can get them back to the original color.

How long do custom orders usually take to leave the factory? I ordered the Gramercy and was just wondering if their October 13th date would be accurate, or if that just the time they give you to be safe.

question, where did you get the October 13th date? I don't think I got a date with my Urban Daddy order.

My SA called the AE factory to check on my custom Delrays in burgundy cordovan, they informed him that the shoes were almost complete but got damaged. Now i have to wait 2 more weeks, they have to re-make them again for me. The wait is agonizing, and now there will be a random pair of Delray seconds (or thirds) in burgundy cordovan somewhere in the world... :fu:

What size are you? Maybe it's worth finding out what the defect is in advance!

Generally speaing, I go with Allen Edmonds 9D.

Thanks! The shell looks and feels good to me. It's my 6th or 7th pair of shell but my first in black. I'm interested to see how they age.

I did not have to sign with FedEx. I honestly can't remember if I did the last time I ordered or not.

Is the Malvern a good winter shoe? Can't decide between the brown calf and th suede. Ay recommendations?

Also, if I wear a 10.5D in Clifton's, what size should I get in the Malverns?

Can anyone help me.. If I wear an 8.5E in strands and they are a tiny bit loose on one foot.. What size should I wear in a shell dalton? 8.5 or 9E?

So I've been reading that the McTavish fits larger (sometimes a full size) than the Strand. This is odd. Aren't they on the same last?

I'm also wondering about the Malvern. I'm normally a 10.5. My feet are about 10.25 inches long. I have an opportunity to buy a pair of new suede Malverns in size 10. Will that work? With cheaper chukkas people tend to say to buy them smaller than your normal size. And how well will the suede hold up if it occasionally gets a little rain on it?

Also, I'm considering buying this used burgundy split-toe. I think it's an Ashton. Does it look worth buying? Will those creases come out if I leave shoe trees in them for a while?

Just noticed that Brooks Brothers has begun labeling the AE shoes as "Allen Edmonds for Brooks Brothers". I say great, but I wonder what prompted them to be more forthcoming about who makes the shoes.

So, I was looking at the AE site last night and saw the Cronmok's. I started drooling over the tan leather, but the more I looked at the Navy leather, the more badass I decided they are. But I'm not sure what I'd wear a navy boot with. I'm an academic, and wear jeans about 95% of the time.

Any ideas for what to pair them with or looks you can link me to?

When the LE Cap Dundee came out I drove 3 hours to pick up a pair of Malvern because the SA told me the Dundee was basically the Malvern and I wanted to check the fit. Which when the Dundee was released I found out was not correct. In the store the Malvern was snug but not too bad so I ended up purchasing them. I wore them in the house for a couple of hours and realized that they were too tight in the toe box. I called the store and they offered to stretch them, so I did that myself at home. But they never did stretch out enough (brown pebble calf) so I ended returning them. When I ordered the LE Dundee's that are now being offered the CS person at AE told me the Malvern has memory foam in it which makes it thicker than other #1 last shoes. The Malvern has Danite soles and from what I have read they are OK in the snow but if you walk on tile once you come inside and are wet several people have mentioned they are extremely slick. I really did want them to work but it was a no go for me.

Most of my shoes are on the #5 last and that last fits me best, I am a 10D in that last including the Strand. But all 3 of my rough collection shoes one of which is the McTavish fit best in 9.5D. I would start down half a size from your Strand size.
