If he bought them from Nordstrom he could return them at any time.

I Live in Buffalo, which is a good 7-9 hours from Nordstrom in NYC. Not sure if there is one closer than that.
The place I bought them is just a smaller men's boutique. They sell AE shoes, and some suits, shirts, and ties.

    I am definitely a 12.5. As I mentioned, I have always worn 11.5 - 12.5 dress shoes, and usually a size 13 sneaker.
I was surprised at how long the AE shoes were when trying them on. They did not have the strands there, but I tried on another AE dress shoe but I am not sure if it was made on the same last as the Strands.
I know that the toe should not touch the end of the shoe, and I always leave sufficient room, but maybe I did not realize how much they are tapered.

I think that is the issue....I bought the smaller size, and the taper starts too soon, therefore it is scrunching my toes into the small area and making my feet sore.

I can try taking them back, but I'm not sure how far that will go.
Anyone want a brand new pair of strands?
    :(

Also, just curious, but you guys that have been wearing AE shoes for a long time, do you find them comfortable? I tried on a pair of To Boot shoes yesterday at a Saks outlet, and they were 100 times softer on the inside. They felt very comfy.

Even though the To Boot shoes were very comfortable, I am more concerned about all day comfort, and I want shoes that I can wear all day and not hurt my feet, shins, and knees.

Mine are very comfortable. But they're also the right size ; ). Only kidding with you. But yes, they're comfortable. For the record, though, regardless of what I wear, if I'm standing all day my feet know it. Doesn't matter if I'm in my vibram five fingers, sandals, running shoes, 1000 mile boots, AE's, etc; my feet know when I've been standing all day. But when I'm walking and throughout the day - no issue.

I just picked up my first pair of cordovan shoes this weekend and I have to say... it really is something else.

The smell, the cordovan glow and the smoothness of the leather really puts it into its own class. I have to say, it does run a little hot inside the shoe though, compared to its calf counterpart. I'm really looking forward to picking up more cordovan in the future if AE comes out with some sleek, simple examples in the near future, I am really kicking myself for not picking up the walnut shell strands when they were out a few months ago... something like a walnut shell kenilworth would be perfect.

Did the salesperson measure your arch length as well? If so, do you recall what this measurement was?

    They look great.

FWIW, and I might be in the minority here, but I like the walnut calf a good bit better than the walnut shell, color-wise. It just looks so....i don't know, greenish?, in shell. For strands in shell, I much prefer the dark brown shell.

There must be a J&M in Buffalo. Go into one of their stores and have them measure to be sure - they at least sell dress shoes and should know how to measure. If you are a 13 sneaker, I would guess you are about a 12 in dress shoes.

But it does sound like you did not consider the taper. Still, the salesperson should never have let you purchase shoes that are 2 sizes smaller than measured! This is whatever is bigger than a red flag - a flashing alarm bell, perhaps?

Just wanted to share a great experience I had at my local AE store. Went in just looking and hoping to try on some size 6 shoes and they actually had some I could try to see what last worked for me. I have to admit that I have been on the Alden bandwagon for years, but now am really thinking f switching to AE. I loved the single oiled leather sole they had on the chukkas they had in thew store. The best thing was the 250 dollar price compared the almost 500 dollar price for the Alden chukkas now. I also liek that a wait for AE is maybe 2-3 weeks and not the 12-24 months I have waited for Aldens. I am going back to show my wife some suede wingtips and hope she likes them for herself. Also hoping she lets me order the Moras for my upcoming birthday.

Thanks guys. I will go back to the shop I bought them from and see if there is anything they will do for me.

Brannock device. Crazy part: the device is set up to measure your arch - IF the salesperson is trained/smart enough to understand the full scope of the device. But, he likely did not/was not. Most just stop at the basic length and don't see what the arch dictates. Go back to the shop, see what they can do.

At the risk of being repetitive, I suggest reviewing the Brannock fitting instructions here.

    http://brannock.com/cgi-bin/start.cgi/brannock/instructions.html

And don't be shy, ask the SA what he is measuring and ask for a comparison between the heel-to-toe and heel-to-ball measurements. It may save you some trouble.

Does anyone have the Amok chukka, and can comment on durability and fit? Also, i thought this boot only came in D width, but my SA looked in his system and found them in EEE width, and they are now available online in wides as well! I might have to give them a try...

Can't comment on durability. I tried on a few pairs at the AE store. The fit was a bit sloppy. I couldn't get the size dialed in. I went with the Alden 1494 instead.

So it looks like this month's webgems are cordovan boots. Those burgundy shell daltons look mighty tempting...

Interesting that they are staying with only black and burgundy. Do the brown shades of cordovan not sell well?

Allen-Edmonds Strawfut model in brown calf/brown mesh combination. I can vouch for this: without a doubt the coolest summer shoes on the market.
